Lindsey Newlove, music teacher at Crestview Elementary, applied for a MAC grant from the Jerry Lewis McDonald’s franchise in hopes of getting some new musical instruments for her students. Specifically, she wanted to purchase a classroom set of guitars, so that she could teach each 4th grader how to play. Through an application and judging process she was selected to receive one of the 2011 McDonald’s MAC Grants. By being selected as a grant winner, she was able to achieve her goal of providing even more hands-on, meaningful activities for her students than what she was already incorporating into her lessons. Throughout the months of April and May, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students have been able to learn basic chords and melodies from the newly purchased guitars made available from the MAC grant. Pictured are 4th grade students practicing their newly learned skills on the guitars. read more...

School Bus Drivers are essential elements in helping school districts provide meaningful educational opportunities for kids. In honor of Ohio School Bus Safety Day (May 7), Crestview Local Schools would like to show their appreciation for its bus drivers. This is the one time of each year that school administrators and communities and the public should join together to celebrate the incredible successes that we enjoy with school transportation. The school bus is absolutely the safest way for our children to travel to and from school – and at the same provides an incredible convenience for our parents while at the same time reducing traffic congestion and smog around our communities. Just think – without any school buses in our state, an additional 750,000 personal vehicles would be on the road twice daily to transport students back and forth to school. That would bring more congestion, more fuel use, more smog, more accidents, and a net loss of safety for our school children. Whether running a regular bus route, or transporting a team to a sporting event, bus drivers provide the “glue” that gets students where they need to be. Pictured is the Crestview fleet of busses as students are being released from school. read more...
