Welcome back for another great school year. The professional development for teachers prior to school was focusing on building relationships with students and the new Social and Emotional Learning Standards that ODE adopted in June 2019. Teachers were also able to listen to Jamie Meade from Battelle speak about giving kids Hope.
The District Design Team is continuing its work with a Portrait of a Graduate. This team is comprised of five different sub committees. They are the following: Climate and Culture, Professional Learning, Parent and Community Involvement, Curriculum and Instruction, and Social, Emotional, and Safety. A group of teachers and administration that are on the DDT will travel to Columbus five times throughout the year. This group is part of the SOAR Network that collaborates with other schools to improve learning. During these meetings, the team will be trying to plan a framework that consist of 21st century learning experiences for all students.
This school year was a little different with Kindergarten students starting after the fair. This allowed the kindergarten students to be assessed in the different areas before they started Kindergarten. As you walk throughout the building, you can hear and see students engaged in their learning. You may notice that the elementary math looks a little different this year, as we are now using iReady Classroom as the math curriculum. Classroom assessments have been happening and as we move towards October, the Third Grade students will kick off the AIR reading assessment for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee. High School students will be taking EOC retakes at the beginning of December.
