I am eager to serve the district as the Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator. I had the pleasure of being a teacher in the elementary for four years and I am excited to be back at Crestview!
Crestview applied for a grant with Georgetown Exempted Village and received an APPLE (Assuring Positive Professional Learning Experiences) Grant. Through this grant, Crestview was under the leadership of Battelle for Kids and conducted a needs assessment. Through this assessment, it revealed that there was a need for focus on core instruction. Teachers worked on creating learning targets through deconstruction of the standards. Teachers were to analyze the standard and then break it down into smaller instructional learning targets.
During the 2017-2018 school year, the teachers also had professional development that was centered around the book Safe, Invited, and Master Taught by Cathy Hamilton. This professional development was centered around Social and Emotional Learning of students and their needs. By looking at the needs of our students and creating learning targets for students, we hope to help students reach these targets.
As we start the new school year, teachers will continue to work on deconstructing but move towards tracking student progress through the learning targets. The end goal would be for students to be able to track their own progress.
Over the summer, there were 36 staff members that took part in the Adaptive Schools training that was held here at Crestview. This was a four-day training that teachers learned various strategies to implement into their classrooms and meetings. This training helps develop stronger schools to meet the challenges of today. During this training, the staff learned numerous strategies to become better equipped to resolve issues around student learning.
As we start the 2018-2019 school year, I look forward to working with the teachers to continue the academic success. If you have any questions, you can reach me at 419-74-9100 ext. 2007.
