NEWS FROM THE CRESTVIEW CAFETERIA

The Crestview Local Schools Cafeteria uses the National School Meal Program as its guideline for preparing each meal served.  We follow the Traditional Based Menu and the Offer verses Served Program.  The five components of a lunch are as follows:  protein, bread, fruit, vegetable and milk.  We are required to serve eight bread items per week.  Sometimes we will use pre-packaged foods that qualify as a bread alternative.  With the Offer verses Served Program a student only has to take three of the five items to qualify as a lunch.

Ala carte options are offered to all students.  These are extras that cost $.50 each and parents can block their purchase by calling the cafeteria and making a request.  Elementary students can buy cookies on Wednesdays or ice cream on Thursdays.  The rest of the week it could be a bread item, water, juice, fruit (in season), turkey stick or beef stick.  The junior/senior high school has more ala carte selections and we are gradually introducing more baked chips and low fat alternatives.  No carbonated beverages are served during lunch.

We try to keep our lunch prices as low as possible.  Lunches, with milk, are as follows:
Elementary School                          $2.00
Junior/High School                          $2.25
Knight Line                                      $3.00
Salad Line w/High School Plate      $3.00
Salad Line w/bowl                           $2.00
Breakfast is $1.25 for everyone.

Parents who believe their children may be eligible for free or reduced price lunches should contact the school and request the necessary forms.  We want to work with our parents to make sure all the children get fed.

This year we are offering a new service called LunchPrePay.  This service will allow you to add funds to your student’s Meals Plus Account by using a credit card.  There is a 5% service fee for all credit card transactions.  Along with the pre pay service, you may also purchase the premium package service for $5.  The premium package allows you to view your child’s meal history, account balance and set up low balance notifications to be received through email.  The $5 fee covers all students in a family.  You can access the site by going to
https://www.lunchprepay.com/.

The food service program is self supporting.  The money received from lunches and breakfasts is used for food, equipment, supplies, repairs, wages and training.

Two to three times each year our facilities are inspected by the Van Wert County Health Department.  Among other things, the inspector checks to see how food is stored and handled.  He/she will check the temperature of our freezer and cooler.  He/she will also make sure we are wearing gloves and hair nets.  Results of the inspections are forwarded to the Ohio Department of Education.

We are here to serve the students.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding the information presented above, please contact me at
