TEAM Crestview – An Educational Partnership
by Interim Superintendent
As your interim superintendent, I look forward to the upcoming school year with a great deal of eagerness and anticipation. I have lived in northwest Ohio for all but three years of my life. I have heard many positive comments about your school district. I am anxious to serve the Crestview students and community. I have thirty-three years of experience in education. Twenty-three of those years were in administration. I am a strong believer in family and family values. My wife, Ruby, and I have three daughters, two son-in-laws, and three grandchildren. We plan to attend student and community activities. We hope to meet many of you soon.
The 2007-2008 Local Report Card, which will be officially released later this summer, will again document the high student achievement levels obtained on the state-wide testing program. While there is always room for improvement, we are anticipating that Crestview will again earn a rating that ranks us with the best school districts in Ohio. This is an achievement that is the direct result of the strong parental involvement in our schools, our excellent professional and support staff and the taxpayers’ willingness to support our “Tradition of Excellence”.
The 2007-2008 school year also ended the educational careers of many long-time educators at Crestview. Mr. Larry Taylor retired from his Business position after 34 years, all at Crestview, and Mr. Ron Kessler as Technology Coordinator after 8 years at Crestview. Lastly, Mrs. Mary Grote retired after 8 years as a custodian and Marcia Etzler after 17 years as a bus driver. Our utmost appreciation is extended to these fine people for their service to the Crestview Local Schools. They will be missed by all.
School district residents approved a 4.6 Mill, $5.4 million Bond Issue in November 2007. The passage of a ½ Mill Facilities Maintenance Fund, as required by the OSFC, was also approved by district voters. The continued support of the community is greatly appreciated.
The Facility Renovation Project, a joint effort of the Crestview Local Schools and Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC) is moving forward. This construction project is a result of many years of research and detailed study by the Board of Education, Administrative Team, employees, Crestview Community members, and the Ohio School Facilities Commission. A Master Plan detailing the scope of this project includes improvements and/or upgrades to the current facility in such areas as the heating and cooling system, electrical system, roofing, plumbing and fixtures, windows, foundations, walls and chimneys, floors, general finishes, lighting, security systems, emergency/egress lighting, fire alarms, handicap accessibility, site conditions, sewage system, water supply, exterior doors, hazardous materials, life safety, loose equipment, technology and other soft costs. The total renovation cost of this project is estimated at $14,125,000, with the local Crestview share set at an estimated $5,985,000 and the state share at an estimated $8,140,000. The project will go to bid in December 2008, with construction to begin in early February 2009.
On behalf of the Board of Education, the Administrative Team and the employees of Crestview Local Schools, appreciation is extended to the Crestview community for your past, present and future support of our school district and, most importantly, the students we serve. Knight Pride is alive and well at Crestview, with our terrific students being our greatest pride.
I encourage you to become actively involved with our school district and invite you to attend the many student and district activities. Please contact me at 419-749-9100, ext. 4 or send an email to estes.mike@crestviewknights.com should you have any questions about our school district or the content of this report to our community.
