Martin Luther King Day (No School)
Mrs. Schwieterman’s first grade class (pictured) has been busy learning about compound words! Compound words are new words that are made by squeezing two or more smaller words together; one example is cupcake. As a wrap-up to their compound word study, Mrs. Schwieterman, Mrs. Duncan, and the students showed their creative sides and “wore” as many compound words as they could on Friday. In all, her class generated 90 compound words from the items they wore. Can you spot some compound words that Mrs. Schwieterman’s students are wearing?
The April “Leader in Me” theme of the month was “Seek to Understand, Then to Be Understood.” Several Crestview Elementary students consistently used good listening and reasoning skills throughout the month by “listening to other people’s ideas and trying to see things from their viewpoints”. As a result, these outstanding students were acknowledged for their efforts. Pictured is the “Leader in Me” April Students of the Month.
